As both a UX/UI and Digital Marketing lecturer I can easily draw parallels between these subjects. It’s all about the user. I always tell my students that you don’t need a lot of money to be successful online. If you have a clear picture of who your audience is and how your brand can address their need you can grow exponentially.

One of the first assignment I give them is to define the Value Proposition Canvas of a brand. This design-based challenge will help them build a solid digital marketing and social media strategy. By identifying the pains and the gains of the users they will know exactly how to send the right message and address the users needs and emotions. For Social Media in particular this will help them becoming experts in storytelling.

This skill is vital for them as most of the junior positions they will apply for involve a lot of content writing.

Involving students with real-life clients

During these courses I share with my students all the knowledge that I detailed above. But this isn’t enough to become a successful digital marketer. They have to put this knowledge  into practice by managing the online strategy of a brand.

The most exciting part as a digital marketing lecturer is having your student think for themselves. And that exactly what they have to do when working on a brand. They cannot just replicate the example explained in class. Each brand is different. What can work for one brand would result in a total failure for another one.

As a digital marketing lecturer and module coordinator for Stenden Thailand I make sure that our student can collaborate with companies based in Bangkok. They have the responsibility to create a detailed Digital Marketing Plan that they will present to the client.

On top of that unique experience, they receive a Google Digital Active certificate which adds value to their CV!
