Arjun Vajpai is an Indian mountaineer who became famous in 2010 as the youngest climber in the world to reach the summit of Mount Everest. He is also the youngest to reach six of the fourteen peaks over 8000m.
The team behind Arjun’s expeditions contacted me as he was preparing his expedition to Mount Makalu in 2015. Arjun needed a website so that his audience could follow his position in real time while climbing the fifth highest mountain in the world. The website would also help increase online visibility to get more sponsorship for rather expensive expeditions.
After his successful expedition to Makalu, his team renewed their trust in me to design the new website of his expedition to conquer Mount Cho-Oyu in October 2016.
Features of the athlete website
– Live map tracking Arjun’s progress on both summits thanks to his GPS device
– Personal blog documenting his expeditions to increase traffic on his website
– Creation of online quizz on the website to win freebies from his sponsors
– Curation of Social Media content throughout the expeditions in order to keep the audience updated
Outcomes of the project
The Makalu expedition was not only a success in terms of mountaineering but also for Arjun’s communication. Indian athlete’s digital presence was almost non-existent, so having a professional website with engaging content created more traffic and more visibility to his sponsors. The expedition received a lot of media coverage and many of my designs can be found here
It also helped him get more contacts to deliver corporate talks about “Climb your own Everest”
Arjun is now one of the most famous faces of extreme sports in India. He is also featured in many Mountain Dew commercials.
